Full Job Description:
In this Cloud Engineer role, you will be part of a talented team responsible for building scalable, secure and highly available cloud services within a hybrid Platform as a Service (PaaS). At the same time, you will gain experience and learn about many other open source products as needed.
- Your primary role will be to develop technical solutions to enhance American Express’ hybrid cloud platform with a focus on building automation to deliver highly scalable cloud services.
- Collaborate with the rest of the API engineering team, UI design team, QA and product management to build scalable and efficient API and orchestration solutions. Research and implement the latest technologies and libraries that enable lean product development. Implement API/middleware solutions that integrate with NSQL, platforms and partner systems
- Protect your APIs with security integrations like Okta, SSO, mTLS, HashiCorp Vault, etc. Adopt programming best practices that produce maintainable code, including usability models, code style consistency, integration, unit testing, and code review. Eager to learn new technologies and proud of how quickly they develop working software

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or similar preferred.
- 3 years of experience with all cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Private Cloud)
- 6 years of experience developing REST APIs using Google GoLang and/or Java.
- 6 years experience in any field of Cloud Design, CI/CD, Kubernetes, Openshift, Docker etc. An outstanding colleague. Good communication skills. Deep understanding of the REST principle as a provider and consumer.
- Strong experience with all NSQL databases (preferably CouchBase and ETCD)
- Deep understanding of security integrations – Okta, mTLS, SSO, HashiCorop Vault, etc.
- Deep understanding of API Gateway and their functionality.
- Experience with any container orchestration technology – Kubernetes, Openshift, etc.
- Deep understanding of CI/CD process and tools like Git, Docker, Jenkins, Spinnaker, XL Release etc. Successful experience developing middleware solutions with a strong focus on code quality, unit testing, integration testing, code quality analyzers and API (Swagger) documentation.
- You know agile application development methods.
- General understanding of QE processes.
