Summary

NPI as a mechanical/product design resource for our systems; we own the modular development from the original system architecture to the ramp. In this role, you will use your mechanical design skills and ability to lead end-to-end mechanical development and the integration of innovative modules into Apple’s next-generation products.

key competencies

B.S. and 3 years of practical mechanical product design.
Experience with one of the following 3D CAD tools: Unigraphics UG, Solidworks, ProEngineer, etc.
Demonstrated understanding of DOE, GDandT, SPC or CP/CPK techniques.
Experience in design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning and geometric tolerancing.
Experience designing precision parts and components
. Assembly experience is beneficial.
Work experience in the field of consumer electronics is beneficial.
Otherwise, experience with medical devices, automotive parts, injection molding, jigs/tools/fixtures, consumables or other tight tolerance parts.
Basic knowledge of PCB/flex design, materials science and chemistry is a plus but not necessary.
Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional team members and collaborate effectively to achieve project goals.

Description

Brainstorm and apply mechanical design concepts to all stages of the development cycle.
Create innovative designs considering SPC and DFM.
Preparation of dimension and tolerance analyses.
Conduct design reviews and manage the file release process.
Assist in the development of production processes and inventory; travel from suppliers to support.
Design validation and characterization from prototype to MP testing.
Failure Analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) to develop design solutions and implement corrective actions.
